Where's the entrance to Versailles Palace?
The main entrance to the Palace of Versailles is through the Grille d'Honneur.
Whether you have already booked a ticket online or are yet to purchase one, you’ll need to pass through the Grille d’Honneur and the security check. You’ll then find yourself in the Cour d'Honneur (main courtyard), where you'll find the entrances to the Château of Versailles, the Gardens, and the Estate of Trianon.
How long does it take to visit Versailles?
A full visit to the Château de Versailles typically takes between 4 to 6 hours, including the Palace, Gardens, and the Estate of Trianon. If you're short on time, a 2 to 3 hours visit can cover the main highlights of the Palace. For a more complete experience, especially during Fountain Show days, we recommend setting aside most of the day.
How to get to Versailles from Paris by public transport?
The quickest and easiest way to go from Paris to Versailles is by train.
RER C train takes you from central Paris (near the Eiffel Tower) to the palace’s closest train station, Versailles Château Rive-Gauche in about 30 minutes. From there, it's a 12-minute walk to the Palace of Versailles.
The last train from Versailles Château Rive-Gauche back to Paris departs at 11:55 PM. We recommend buying your return ticket in advance to avoid long lines at the station in the evening.
A one-way train ticket costs €2.50 per person (€5.00 round trip). You can load it onto your Navigo Easy card or purchase it via the Île-de-France Mobilités app.
There are three train stations in Versailles. If RER C line is not working, you can reach line N to Paris Montparnasse, line L to Paris Saint Lazare or line U to La Defense.
Whatever the option, be cautious to check schedules and announcements at train stations as well as on the mobile apps Île-de-France Mobilités, Bonjour RATP or CityMapper.
Is there a car parking on-site?
Yes! The Place d'Armes parking lot is available and offers different rates depending on the length of your stay.
Parking is free for reduced mobility visitors upon presentation of valid disability documentation.
